This month’s Hero Highlight is Joanne Barmasse, who has been supporting the TANGO2 Research Foundation since its inception in 2017. Joanne’s passion for helping families impacted by TDD is evident in her tireless efforts, including helping coordinate the biennial benefit dinner and auction, serving on the T2RF Fundraising Committee, and personally fundraising for the foundation. She hopes that one day the foundation will achieve newborn screening to prevent severe symptoms in individuals diagnosed with TDD.

Joanne’s fundraising support has been invaluable. Recently, her son Andrew’s marathons provided another opportunity to raise funds, as friends donated in support of his efforts.

Outside her volunteer efforts, Joanne is a semi-retired realtor who enjoys quilting, reading, gardening, and traveling. She met T2RF co-founder Kasha Morris through their book club 17 years ago, and their shared commitment has created a lasting impact on the TANGO2 community.

The TANGO2 Research Foundation deeply appreciates Joanne’s dedication and the lasting impact of her contributions. Thank you, Joanne, for helping us work toward a brighter future for families affected by TANGO2 deficiency disorder!
