We are pleased to introduce long-time TANGO2 Research Foundation board member, Kara Cameron! Kara serves as our board’s Treasurer and is also a member of the Research Committee, Executive Committee and Fundraising Committee.
We asked Kara about her experience with the organization. Read below to learn more about this truly amazing volunteer!
What is your connection to TANGO2?
“My daughter Bria has TANGO2-related disease. For the longest time we had no idea what caused Bria’s ‘episodes’, the first of which occurred at the age of 4 months. We had spent the subsequent months/years battling back from that. Bria experienced low blood sugar, high CPK and lactate levels, high Ketone levels, brain damage, enlarged kidneys, prolonged QT, Hypothyroidism, uncontrolled seizures, suffered 2 comas, 15 total days on life support, feeding tubes, mounds of medications and long hospital stays in with the first 4 years of her life.”
What is your involvement with the TANGO2 Research Foundation and why did you get involved?
“I have been a volunteer for the TANGO2 Research Foundation since it’s inception. Bria displays an everlasting luster to pursue happiness daily. It is this that motivates me to help her in her journey by participating in this research.”
How long have you been involved with the organization?
“Since the first year, in 2017…five years ago.
What do you enjoy most about being a volunteer for the TANGO2 Research Foundation?
“I feel like I am contributing to the betterment of my child’s and other children with TANGO2-related disease health.”
What impact has the TANGO2 Research Foundation had on your life?
“As a mother of a child with a very rare genetic disease, I have experienced first hand what a privilege it is to have access to information, care and support from a community of parents, doctors and volunteers all focused on advancing research that could one day save your child. I am so lucky to have found this group of like-minded individuals to work alongside as we fight for a cure for TANGO2-related disease.”
