We are thrilled to spotlight this month’s Hero Highlight, Dr. Agustin “Agu” Lujan. Dr. Lujan is a physician-scientist and T2RF Research Committee member dedicated to advancing research in pediatric rare diseases, including TANGO2 deficiency disorder. Based at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, Spain, he works within the neuromuscular and arrhythmia/sudden death units, bridging patient-centered, basic, and clinical research.
He has been collaborating with T2RF since August 2024. His connection to TANGO2 began earlier during his postdoctoral work, when he came across a story about a family in Argentina, his home country, facing the disorder with limited information and support. Moved by both the scientific challenges and the human need, he became deeply committed to advancing TANGO2 research.
Outside of Dr. Lujan’s professional life, he’s a dog lover, a travel enthusiast, a snowboard rider, and a home barista who is passionate about achieving the perfect cup of coffee. He think that nothing beats cooking up a big meal for friends and family, sharing stories, and soaking in those simple joys.
